Characteristics

The red and white colors of the Indonesian flag become the base colors, representing Indonesia as the motherland of the Medan Hokkien people.
The green color originates from the green color of the Medan City flag. Its position on the left side represents Medan City's location at the western (left) side of the country.
The Chinese character 福 comes from 福建 fújiàn, which means Hokkien. Its yellow color originates from the yellow color in the seal of Medan City.
